Refractory Materials for Converter Steelmaking

The lining structure of the converter can be divided into the furnace bottom, molten pool, furnace wall, furnace cap, slag line, trunnion, furnace mouth and tapping hole. Therefore, when selecting refractory materials, you need to consider factors such as material purity, impurity content, and particle size distribution. So, this ensures that it can meet the working conditions of the corresponding parts and prolong its service life.

Magnesium refractory products are mainly used in converter steelmaking. The following are the specific types of refractory materials used in various parts of the converter.

Furnace mouth: the furnace mouth generally uses refractory bricks that are resistant to slag, thermal shock and wear and impact. For example, dolomite bricks and magnesia carbon bricks that are not easy to hang steel and slag. Moreover, to improve the corrosion resistance, we need to use high-purity magnesia refractory bricks on its slag discharge side.

Furnace cap: it is one of the most severely eroded parts of the converter by slag. You can use tar-bitumen bonded dolomite bricks and magnesia bricks.

Furnace belly: the charging side of the furnace belly is the most severely damaged part of the converter lining. This part should use dolomite oil-impregnated bricks with low impurity content, high-purity direct-bonded oil-impregnated magnesia bricks, magnesia carbon bricks and magnesia dolomite bricks.

Tar pitch-combined dolomite bricks, magnesia bricks and magnesia carbon bricks are used on the steel tapping side.

The slag line uses synthetic dolomite bricks with high MgO content, high-purity magnesia bricks, magnesia carbon bricks and magnesia dolomite carbon bricks.

Both sides of the ear shaft of the furnace belly are easily damaged parts. The refractory brick for sale that can be selected for this part include tar dolomite bricks, light-burned dolomite bricks,  high-purity oil-immersed magnesia bricks, magnesia carbon bricks, magnesia dolomite carbon bricks and fused rebonded magnesia bricks.

Molten pool and furnace bottom: these two parts generally use tar asphalt combined dolomite bricks or magnesia bricks. You can also use the same refractory materials as the furnace belly.

Steel outlet: this part is severely damaged. Now we mostly use fired magnesia bricks made of fused magnesia or high-purity magnesia ramming mass.
